18. Low Stock Management

Verified against: [Section 3]/03-product-management/#inventory and [Section 5]/05-inventory-management/, where the absence of a threshold field was already confirmed by reading the product/inventory create and edit forms directly.

STATUS: Planned / Not yet implemented. There is no Low Stock Threshold field anywhere in this admin, and no automatic low-stock alert of any kind. This was already established while researching product and inventory fields — repeated here because the original brief expects a full workflow, which has to be built around that gap rather than assume it away.

What the brief wants vs. what exists

Stock falls below threshold

Threshold / alert: not implemented. Nothing in this system will proactively tell staff a SKU is running low.
Check current demand / incoming stock: no dedicated screens — “current demand” would mean manually looking at recent orders ([Section 8]/08-order-management/); “incoming stock” isn’t tracked anywhere (no purchase-order or expected-delivery feature exists).
Create production/purchase requirement: not a system feature — this is entirely an outside-the-system business process today.
Receive stock / Update inventory: real — see [Section 5 — Receiving New Stock]/05-inventory-management/#receiving-new-stock.

Practical process, given today’s real tools

Periodically check stock levels. Either open Inventory directly ([Section 5]/05-inventory-management/), or use Products → Export ([Section 17]/17-reports/#real-tools-that-exist-today) to get every SKU’s numbers into a spreadsheet at once — more practical than clicking through 6 SKUs individually, and the only way to sort/filter stock levels outside the admin’s own list view.
Decide what counts as “low” for each SKU. [TO BE CONFIRMED] — no business threshold has been decided for either product’s three sizes. Until one exists, this is a judgment call each time, not a system-enforced rule.
If low, follow this store’s own production/purchasing process to get more stock — outside the scope of this admin entirely, and not something this wiki can document without real business input.
Once new stock arrives, follow [Section 5 — Receiving New Stock]/05-inventory-management/#receiving-new-stock to update the “In Stock” number.

Configuring a real threshold, if this gets built later

There’s nothing to configure today. If a Low Stock Threshold feature is ever added (custom admin widget, or a future Medusa version), the natural place for it would be alongside the other per-variant fields documented in [Section 3 — Inventory]/03-product-management/#inventory and [Section 4 — Variant fields]/04-product-variants/#variant-fields — not a new concept bolted on separately, since stock is already tracked per-variant, per-location.
